Melaleuca was so beautiful, so much history and stunning scenery, we saw whales flying down the coast and the rare orange bellied parrots in their natural habitat. Our tour made it right out to the heads of Port Davey, where we could feel the remoteness, isolation and beauty of this place. I would absolutely recommend this trip, a well-run tour and a perfect day out.

Great trip, did it a few years ago on a perfect day.
This is without one of the best places on earth. I have been lucky enough to sail into there and stay
I still think this is the best experience in Tasmania by a mile! I had Leigh a few years ago as our guide, he was brilliant!! The whole experience was bucket list worthy!!
Flat Top and Round Top island - part of the Maatsuyker Island group. 🏝️
Mewstone Island in the background is actually part of the Pedra Branca due its geology.
This epic shot was taken by one of our incredible guides @petermarmion on a flight to Melaleuca. 📸

Great pic Peter. Mewstone (just called that) is 11 km south of the other two, named after the Great Mew Stone south of Plymouth in the UK. Mew there means gull. Mewstone hosts many albatross - the Shy Albatross that breeds only there, Pedra Branca, and a Bass Strait isle, all Tasmanian.
Great memories, we almost landed on the Mewstone by helicopter when returning to Maat when my husband was a keeper. Helicopter pilto mistook Mewstone for Maat. New pilot and bad weather, we directed him west to our island home.
We sailed through there to Port Davey and return to Hobart. It was comforting to see the islands after rounding South East Cape and the same from the other direction. It didn’t seem so scary being in the Southern Ocean.
