Gordon Wild Rivers Explorer – day tour

Gordon Wild Rivers Explorer: day tour

Visit Tasmania's wild west in style

We depart Cambridge airport and fly over the picturesque central highlands of Tasmania towards the island’s wild west coast, taking in the grand scale of Macquarie Harbour before descending to Strahan to join the award-winning Gordon River Cruise. We board the award-winning Gordon River Cruises and journey through the famous waterway of the Gordon River, part of Tasmania’s UNESCO Wilderness World Heritage Area. We travel through ‘Hell’s Gates’ at the mouth of the Macquarie Harbour before looking at local salmon and trout farms. The atrium seating onboard allows you to experience the historical and picturesque journey in absolute comfort. Your Gordon River Cruise vessel then stops at ‘Heritage Landing’ where we explore the pristine rainforest, surrounded by ancient Huon Pines and breath in the cleanest air in the world. In this area of the forest, some of the trees are over 2000 years old! As we cruise to our second stop of the day, we enjoy a delicious chef-prepared lunch before taking a guided tour of Sarah Island, hearing the stories of the former penal colony which is now one of Tasmania’s most unique and fascinating historical sites. We arrive back in Strahan with plenty of time to peruse the local gift shop and take a stroll around the beautiful township before returning by air to Cambridge Airport.
